Sam Smith isn’t just baring his chest for the new issue of V; he’s also letting his true feelings be known about some of his contemporaries. And proving that the Grammy nominee has become quite the soul diva magnet after working with Mary J. Blige for her recent album The London Sessions, Sam sat down for V with original “I’m Every Woman” legend Chaka Khan, who conducted the interview.

“Even when you meet them — I won’t name names—but some of these pop stars are just awful,” Smith said in his interview with Khan, as reported by E! Online. “And they have not even had half the success that you’ve had and yet you’re so humble and kind.”

Khan responded, “Well, it’s people skills. Talking to a screen all day long takes the human experience out. Luckily I grew up in a time when we only had a telephone at home.”

Chaka was apparently so impressed by Sam that she suggested they collaborate on music: “We are definitely going to write a song together.”

“Hundred percent, I’m in,” he replied. “I was actually thinking me, you, and Mary [J. Blige] would do something.”

So there you have it — Sam’s true thoughts on the phony side of the music biz and the roots of Chaka’s possible upcoming house-soul album.
