Nicki Minaj’s MTV Documentary ‘My Time Again’: Watch
“How much of a failure am I?” Nicki Minaj, rap mogul, asks in Nicki Minaj: My Time Again.
This documentary, MTV’s sequel to 2010’s Nicki Minaj: My Time Now, aired January 17 — so, a month since she released her third album The Pinkprint. Minaj reflects on obstacles that she’s discussed at length since then: She explains her wardrobe malfunction at the MTV Video Music Awards, her struggle to strike a balance between her career and family life and the (broad) reasons why she split with her longtime boyfriend Safaree Samuels — who, just as in My Time Now, appears by her side without explanation, though only briefly.
Fans have heard of all this before. For the first time, though, they will be able to see how vulnerable she was back then. Minaj asked if she was a failure after exiting the VMAs stage. She melts when a friend’s 4-year-old daughter remembers her name: “Aunt… Nicki!” And, she cries at the studio, when her engineer plays The Pinkprint‘s “The Crying Game” (featuring an uncredited Jessie Ware) back to her.
“I’m learning to face reality,” she says, before she tears up.
