Even prior to world hearing his In The Lonely Hour debut album (released in May 2014), Sam Smith has been one of the biggest pop stars to keep on your radar. Now in the latest issue of Rolling Stone, he is reflecting on his musical journey.

For one thing, he quite over everyone comparing him to Adele“We’re very different, and I feel like the constant comparisons might piss her off,” he tells the magazine. “It just annoys me that people can’t digest two pop stars singing really personal songs who don’t look like normal pop stars.”

As for his upcoming Grammys performance? He has cayenne-pepper juice regime to prep himself: “I’m just very body-conscious. Sometimes I’m really proud that I don’t look like other pop stars. But there’s also moments where I’m like, ‘Ugh, I wish I had abs like Bieber,” he muses.

Along with covering magazine issues, breaking chart records and posting various Instagram selfies, Smith is keeping busy with his upcoming UK tour and a performance at the 57th annual Grammys next month. View the Rolling Stone cover in full below!
