1D appeared on 'SNL' for the third time and performed "Night Changes" and "Ready To Run." Watch.

Liam Payne and Louis Tomlinson have been snapped in the studio working on tracks for One Direction‘s next LP — they certainly don’t waste time — with Nickelback frontman Chad Kroeger. (Now that’s a sentence I never thought I’d write). Daughtry drummer Robin Diaz, who was also involved in the session, posted a snap of the unlikely collaborators on Instagram and tweeted: “Amazing songwriter Chad Kroeger creating hits with [Louis & Liam] killer singers/WOW.”

While it’s hard to get your head around 1D cooking up hits with Avril Lavigne‘s much-maligned husband, there is some method to the madness. The boy band almost morphed into a soft-rock outfit on latest LP FOUR, so it’s not a huge stretch of the imagination that they would try to toughen up their sound by working with the man behind ’00s rock classics “How You Remind Me,” “Photograph” and “Far Away.” It makes less sense, however, when you consider that Liam was recently snapped in the lab with Juicy J. I guess we have to expect the unexpected from album five.
