Kid Astray’s “Still Chasing Nothing”: Idolator Premiere

2015 marks the year of up-and-coming artists, and Kid Astray are definitely one to watch! The six-piece band (who hail from the suburbs of Oslo, Norway) plan to make their mark with “Still Chasing Nothing” — their new tune that we at Idolator are premiering today (February 9).

The track, which follows 2014’s feel-good single — “Back To The Ordinary” — is a breezy uptempo that will make you long for the upcoming sunny seasons. It features shimmering synths borrowed from the ’80s, which are juxtaposed with bold and throaty vocals — courtesy of lead vocalist Benjamin Giørtz. Take a listen to the track below!

Kid Astray’s frontman, Benjamin Giørtz, explained the tune to Idolator: “‘Still Chasing Nothing’ is about overcoming a hard situation and realizing that there’s a freedom in not constantly having to chase after other people’s approval. It’s a song about taking control of your own life and constantly looking ahead towards a brighter future. The inspiration comes from an old synth I found in my basement – one of dads old ones, an Oberheim ob-8.”

He went on to give us a taste of what’s to come on their debut album, saying “As for the record, you can expect to see a clear development for us as a band and you’ll of course get a solid pop album with some really hard-hitting tunes.”

“Still Chasing Nothing” is from Kid Astray’s forthcoming LP Home Before the Dark, slated for a 2015 release via Norwegian record label Cosmos (Say Lou Lou, Naomi Pilgrim, etc). Among the band are a former Vogue cover model, junior golf champion, and a Chinese/Norwegian piano virtuoso.
