Grammy Awards Hit Lowest Ratings Since 2009: Blame ‘The Walking Dead’?

If you thought the Grammy Awards telecast was a snoozefest last night — and, many people did think just that — wait till you get a load of the ratings. Deadline reports that the CBS-televised event “took a double-digit blow in the key demo compared with last year’s ceremony. Among adults 18-49, the show, which ran from 8-11:39 PM, was down 14% to an 8.5 rating, and down 11% in viewers with 25.3 million.”

Bottom line: It was the lowest ratings for the Grammys in six years. Back in 2009, when Robert Plant and Alison KraussRaising Sand won Album Of The Year (oh…), the show pulled in a 7.4/18 rating and had 19.05 million total viewers.

Perhaps AMC’s The Walking Dead is to blame? The zombie thriller series returned Sunday night with its first new episode since November, and drew it’s second-highest ratings of Season 5 (after only the October 12 season premiere).

Lord knows there had to have been way more action going on with Rick, Glenn & Co. in the land of the undead than what was happening at the Staples Center.
