Lady Gaga may have hit the Oscars red carpet in a boxy white dress designed by Azzedine Alaia and a pair of bulky red gloves, but she switched to something more traditional when she belted out a medley of songs from The Sound Of Music.

To be honest, Gaga’s performance was the breathtaking highlight of an otherwise predictable Academy Awards ceremony. She tore through bits of songs from the 1965 film, as made famous by Julie Andrews, such as “The Sound Of Music,” “My Favorite Things,” “Edelweiss” and “Climb Every Mountain.”

By the end of the stunning medley, the entire audience was on its feet, and even Andrews herself walked on stage and gave Gaga a hug.
