Slow Knights’ “Just Kiss”: Listen To The Funky New Synth Jam From Del Marquis’ Band

With Scissor Sisters on a seemingly indefinite hiatus since the release of 2012 album Magic Hour, band member and multi-talent Del Marquis has been busy working on his own group, Slow Knights, for the few years. In 2013, Marquis released the album Cosmos, which found members of Prince‘s New Power Generation and vocalists Rod Thomas (aka Bright Light Bright Light), Xavier Smith, Chrissi Poland and Bridget Barkan taking part.

Cosmos was an album that was two-and-a-half years in the making, done “in fits and bursts in between Scissors records and touring,” Del (whose real name is Derek Gruen) told Idolator in 2013.

Slow Knights are gearing up for the release of follow-up album Living in a Dark World, Let Me Be Your Light, and this time around, each band member had a hand in writing the songs.

The first offering from the set is lead single “Just Kiss,” a funky, synth-driven number that, like some of the tracks on Cosmos, has Del and his comrades indulging in their love for gorgeous ’80s R&B grooves.

“For this record, I wanted to focus on production while letting the singers dictate the lyrical direction,” Del says in a press release. “It’s a very Fleetwood Mac approach, democratically mining so many band members for drama. I love that the record goes off in so many directions of narrative.”

“Just Kiss” was made available for download on iTunes this week. Let us know your thoughts on Slow Knights’ new single below.
