It Looks Like Zendaya Is Working With Timbaland On Her Sophomore Album

Zendaya has been blessed — and burdened — by Aaliyah comparisons since dropping slinky, ’90s R&B-channeling debut single “Replay” in 2013. It sounded like cutest bop Baby Girl never released, which could explain why the 18-year-old was handpicked to star in that ill-fated Lifetime biopic. (She sensibly dropped out before filming began).

Expect the comparisons to persist a little longer with news that Zendaya is working with Timbaland (Aaliyah’s producer and mentor) on her sophomore LP. “Welcome to teamtimbo!!!!! Get ready!!!!!!!,” the 42-year-old hitmaker posted on Instagram. In theory, this is a perfect match. The talented teen switched record labels — from Disney to Republic — to pursue a more credible, R&B sound and it doesn’t get much better than working with the man behind much of Beyonce and Justin Timberlake’s recent output. See Tim’s post below.
