Future Hit: Marlon Roudette’s “When The Beat Drops Out” Is A Breezy Springtime (And Summer) Jam

With a little luck, Marlon Roudette‘s “When The Beat Drops Out” might just emerge as a formidable Song Of The Summer contender. The super chill, steel-drum-featuring single first rolled out in parts of Europe last summer (it reached #1 in Germany), and eventually made its way to the UK a week ago, where it’s now a Top 10 hit. If we had to draw a comparison, we’d say that “When The Beat Drops Out” is giving us the same vibe as Mr. Probz‘s worldwide breakout track “Waves” and Nico & Vinz‘s “Am I Wrong.”

Roudette, who is set to make his Stateside debut with a couple gigs next week (including a showcase at South By Southwest in Austin), is the son of British producer Cameron McVey (Sugababes, Massive Attack, Portishead) and the godson of McVey’s wife, Neneh Cherry. Not a bad pop pedigree!
