Meghan Trainor’s “Dear Future Husband” Video Is Offending A Lot Of Women
“If you’ll treat me right, I’ll be the perfect wife,” coos Meghan Trainor on “Dear Future Husband,” the third single from the diva’s chart-topping debut LP Title. “Buying groceries, buy-buying what you need.” While clearly no “Run The World (Girls),” the song always struck me as distinctly tongue-in-cheek. After all, it’s a 1950s-channeling, doo-wop bop. Surely, the 21-year-old is simply sending up that decade’s outdated social mores?
In any case, it would have been wise to emphasize the (hopefully) ironic lyrics with an empowering video. Instead, Meghan spends most of “Dear Future Husband” scrubbing the floor. As a result, the visual has sparked something of a backlash on social media. “So disappointed in yet another anti-feminist song,” tweeted one commentator. “How is it that Usher‘s ‘I Don’t Mind’ is more #feminist than Meghan Trainor’s ‘Dear Future Husband’,” mused another. Ouch.
The majority of songs on Meghan’s debut LP contain uplifting messages that promote a healthy body image and foster self confidence, so perhaps something just got lost in translation this time? Read a selection of the outraged tweets below.

Can 2015 be the year where we realize that Shailene Woodley and Meghan Trainor are not feminist icons and should be kept away from children?

Meghan Trainor makes music with anti-feminist lyrics that I like to dance to while washing dishes and cooking and trying on bras.

Meghan Trainor's "Dear Future Husband" throws it back 50 years. "Buy me what I want and call me pretty, that's all i need!" Absolute trash.
