Ludacris Talks New Album ‘Ludaversal’ And Shooting ‘Furious 7’ In Abu Dhabi: Watch

On March 31, Ludacris will release his first album in five years, Ludaversal. And while the 37-year-old Atlanta MC has kept busy in the past half-decade since the release of his previous LP,  2010’s chart-topping Battle Of The Sexes, shooting James Wan’s upcoming Furious 7 (in theaters April 3) is one project he’s happiest about being associated with.

“A lot of the time movies put out sequels and they continue to get worse—this one continues to get better,” Luda tells VIBE in a new interview. “As long they continue to get better and we don’t lose the integrity of what’s going on, they can keep going.”

One of the biggest perks for Ludacris, who’s been a part of the Fast & Furious franchise since 2003’s 2 Fast 2 Furious, was shooting on location in Abu Dhabi.

“This is a place where, if you ever heard about it or know what goes on there, [there’s] so much money in Abu Dhabi,” Ludacris says.  “Of course there’s oil money and just a lot of different business money. It almost shows you what life can be, in terms of how much money is out there.”

But with filming on Furious 7 wrapped and the movie out in theaters next month, the rapper/actor is focused on his return to music.

“I didn’t mean for it to be like this,” Luda tells VIBE. I took a little time off because after seven consecutive albums you need to get inspired again to have some shit to write about. However, I didn’t mean for it to be five years—more like three.”
