Justin Bieber is slowly but surely working on his new album! Back in January, the singer confirmed the news in magazine — but there weren’t any concrete signs of him actually working in the studio. But in the midst of Comedy Central roasts and showing off his ripped body for various photo shoots, Bieber is in fact gearing up for a new release!

In a recent interview with USA Today, Bieber stated that his next album will be co-produced by Kanye West and Rick Rubin. These are some of hip-hop’s greatest assets, so it is possible the singer’s sound could lean towards more of a Journals vibe — let’s face it, that acoustic album with Cody Simpson isn’t happening.

Bieber revealed that he previously scrapped an album since it did not fit with his vision:

“It’s changed everything. My whole direction has changed. What you are thinking about all the time is what you write, and now that I’m thinking about more positive things, it completely changes my music. I had to re-do my whole (new) album. It was done but it didn’t match up to where I am now and where my head’s at. I want to tell my story, but I also want to give people hope. I lost hope for a while, I was in a dark place, but it’s about getting out of that rut. It’s about knowing there’s sunshine on the other side.”

He has also gone a lot of growing up, as we’ve all seen with his multiple Ellen Degeneres appearances. “Hope and faith, that’s what’s gotten me through this too, my faith. What I believe in. You’re around some people sometimes and it might taint what you believe. I think that’s what happened with me, I lowered my beliefs,” he said.

Just three months ago, manager Scooter Braun posted an Instagram photo of the pop star alongside Rick Rubin with the caption — “Working on some history!” Bieber is also featured on Diplo and Skrillex’s collaborative debut set Skrillex and Diplo Present Jack Ü.
