Flume Remixes Lorde's "Tennis Court"
Lorde's "Tennis Court" gets a very trippy remix courtesy of Aussie producer Flume.

While Sam Smith is fast conquering America/the world with his vast array of mood-ruining ballads, I’ve always preferred the Brit in slightly uptempo mode. (His killer feature on Disclosure’s “Latch” is a good example). That makes Flume’s remix of “Lay Me Down” an extremely tantalizing prospect. The Australian producer/artist is best known — stateside, at least – for his mind-bending overhauls of indie-pop anthems and he works his usual magic on the flexible crooner’s latest hit.

Flume doesn’t so much remix tracks as completely deconstruct and reinvent them. (Listen to his staggering take on Lorde’s “Tennis Court”). “Lay Me Down” gets similar treatment. Sam’s soaring vocal now inhabits a multi-layered electro-soundscape. It’s jarring at first, but the 23-year-old’s epic, widescreen production and distorted, mercurial beats somehow make the vocal sound even lonelier. Listen to the spooky remix below.
