The Weeknd became a mainstream star this year with “Earned It,” the Platinum-selling song he contributed to the Fifty Shades of Grey soundtrack. This was a tamer version of the hedonistic R&B for which the Canadian crooner had become known for, thanks to mixtapes like 2011’s House of Balloons.

Strangely, and despite the film’s depictions of BDSM, The Weeknd decided to play it safe this time around.

On April 11, the singer closed out the main stage during Coachella’s second night. There, he performed a new song that sounds as depraved as his earliest buzz singles. (Its producer Mano says that contrary to initial reports, it isn’t called “Mood Music.”)

“I just want to get you out the friend zone / ‘Cause you look even better than in the photos,” The Weeknd sings, before he confesses of bedding two other bitches the other night. His voice gets more forceful, and as Mano cues piercing, terrifying shrieks throughout.
