That highly anticipated Mean Girls musical is coming along nicely, it seems.

In an interview with Yahoo last month, Jeff Richmond, the composer behind both the upcoming musical and the theme song for Tina Fey‘s series Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt (he’s also her husband — convenient!) revealed that the musical adaptation of the majorly quotable 2004 teen comedy is “like 60 percent written.”

“We’ve been writing with Nell Benjamin of Legally Blonde fame, she’s working with us as a lyricist. We’ve been working for a long time now. I’m going to say it’s like 60 percent written, and it’s being staffed creatively. We are looking to do some actual solid readings coming around this summer,” he explained. Richmond also confirmed a song called “Old Blonde Song” to be sung by Regina’s mother. (And as whether a song called “Fetch” will exist? “I don’t think it will.” Shame!)

And in a more recent interview with Billboard, the composer further detailed their plans for the musical.

We definitely want to see some kind of shape by the end of the summer…with that in mind, we know that 60 or 70 percent of that will go away when we start bringing in real singers and actors. We’ll do a lot of rewriting. The most difficult part of the process is determining, ‘What are your best song ideas, and what do you leave alone as dialogue?’
