“I’m just a singer who already blew his shot/I get along with old timers ’cause my name’s a reminder of a pop song people forgot,” Mike Posner sings on his melancholy new single, “I Took A Pill In Ibiza.” If the song’s title didn’t grab your attention, that line sure might.

A lot has evidently changed for the “Cooler Than Me” crooner ever since he debuted as a pop sensation in 2010, and it seems he’s finally coming down from the high. “I took a pill in Ibiza to show Avicii I was cool/And when I finally got sober, felt 10 years older, but fuck it, it was something to do,” he starts on the slow-moving acoustic tune, showcasing his singer-songwriter skills — and a pretty hefty amount of honesty.

The track is  a cautionary tale that speaks to the perils of celebrity, and what happened to him after initially making it big. “You don’t wanna be high like me/Never really knowing why like me/You don’t ever wanna step off that roller coaster and be all alone,” he sings along the chorus.

It’s a very different approach than his last single, 2013’s “Top Of The World” with Big Sean, a confident burst of confidence about climbing his way up to the top in the industry. Following two scrapped sophomore records in the making (Pages and Sky High), Posner’s now hoping to make it work with his third attempt.
