Rihanna and Chris Brown reunite in “Put It Up,” a previously unreleased track that surfaced online last night (April 18).
While listening to the steamy R&B duet, it’s impossible not to feel conflicted. Remember, Brown assaulted Rihanna in 2009. No one should forget that, despite the duets that they’ve recorded since: 2011’s depraved “Birthday Cake” and 2013’s soulful “Nobody’s Business.”
But their chemistry in the studio is still undeniable. Listening to “Put It Up” can also feel like we’ve caught the ex-couple in a private moment. “Treat me like I’m your property,” they repeat — a moment that should feel cheesy, because that line reads as if it was borrowed from Fifty Shades of Grey, but isn’t because of how tender they sound.
