Two months after the announcement that Cyndi Lauper, Bobby Braddock, Willie Dixon, the Grateful Dead‘s Robert Hunter and Jerry Garcia, Toby Keith and Linda Perry will all be inducted into the Songwriters Hall Of Fame on June 18 comes word that one of today’s biggest pop stars will also be honored at the event: Lady Gaga. The six-time Grammy winner will receive the first ever Contemporary Icon Award at the 46th annual Songwriters Hall Of Fame dinner, being held at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in Manhattan.

According to a press release, the Songwriters Hall Of Fame Contemporary Icon Award “has been initiated in order to celebrate a songwriter-artist who has attained an iconic status in pop culture.”

Hall Of Fame President & CEO Linda Moran added, “It could be said that this honor was created with Lady Gaga in mind. She has enjoyed monumental popularity on the charts, on radio, TV and the Internet, not to mention the continuous press coverage she has generated. She is a consistent hit maker who has surprised everyone by proving to be as adept with the great standards as she is with her own songs. We at SHOF are particularly proud that Lady Gaga performed at one of our songwriter showcases when she was still known as Stefani Germanotta.”

To date, Gaga has released three pop albums since 2008, as well as Cheek To Cheek, the collection of standard covers with Tony Bennett that earned the singer her most recent Grammy. She also racked up 12 Top 10 singles in a five-year period, proving she knows a thing (or 12) about being a “contemporary icon.”
