Fun. vocalist Nate Ruess goes solo with "Nothing Without Love." Watch the video.

Nate Ruess embarked on a solo career in February with soaring pop/rock anthem “Nothing Without Love.” The track, which is still building at radio and climbing iTunes, wouldn’t sound out of place on Fun.’s Grammy-winning Some Nights LP with its sweeping, literate lyrics and sing-a-long chorus. The same can’t be said, however, of experimental Grand Romantic buzz track “AhHa” (out today, April 27).

Sounding like a cross between early Talking Heads and Billy Joel, “AhHa” is an initially unsettling mix of layered vocals and aggressive chants with unexpected bursts of brass and percussion that magically comes together thanks to a gorgeous chorus and deeply autobiographical lyrics. “I thought of taking my own life, but mama don’t cry,” Nate sings/wails. “I found songs among the tragic, hung my hat on sadness.” Listen to the moving track below. Grand Romantic drops June 16.
