‘The Voice’: Snoop Dogg, Pharrell & Walk The Moon Perform, Team Christina Aguilera Knocked Out Of The Competition (Once Again)

Prepare yourself for another Voice twist! Don’t worry, unlike the semi-finals twist in Season 7, where the last finalist was pulled from the Top 20 and announced on the Today Show in order to drag the results out over a full 12 hours, Carson Daly kept this twist within the confines of Tuesday’s results episode. Translation: there was no way Christina Aguilera, Adam Levine, Blake Shelton or Pharrell were waking up for a satellite interview at 7 a.m. New York time.

But back to the twist. Are you ready? Sitting down? Hydrated? 9-1 dialed on the phone so you only have one digit left to immediate help in case this twist excites you into a full on conniption fit? Deep breath, and…

…after announcing the first two artists advancing to the finals, Carson then announces one contestant that will have to sing for an Instant Save before announcing the third contestant definitely advancing to the finals. And that is it.

Sorry, but can The Voice consult with Law & Order: SVU on the definition of “twist” and try that again?

The real twist here is the coach who is eventually eliminated from the running. But check out a few happy performances before getting to all that sadness.

Walk The Moon kicks it all off on a high note with “Shut Up And Dance.” The ’80s influence of the rising stars is in full swing with a glow-stick filled audience.

Snoop Dogg and Pharrell sing “California Roll,” which might just be the new chill vibes song of summer from Snoop’s new album, Bush, released Tuesday. Pharrell was nothing but compliments for his duet bud, explaining the collaboration with, “We gotta do more to hold our heroes high,” and praising Snoop as a “legend.”

India Carney, Koryn Hawthorne and Meghan Linsey continue their Voice journey (ugh), by singing Journey’s “Faithfully.” They manage to look like besties, and not three fierce competitors silently wishing laryngitis on the others. That is talent.

The best-friends-until-one-of-them-is-eliminated-forever trend continues with Joshua Davis and Sawyer Fredericks. The contestants, who Carson introduces as “friends,” sing Dobie Gray’s “Drift Away.” It’s certainly a level above the local Friday night cover band version, and makes you want to sit around a campfire with both.

Before going too nuts on campfires and bestie bonding moments, let’s get through the results to see who’s left in these friendship groups.

SAVED

Team Adam: Joshua Davis. The Invincible Man strikes again!

Team Blake: Meghan Linsey. Her play to win the country votes paid off in a big way.

Team Pharrell: Sawyer Fredericks. Duh.

INSTANT SAVE PERFORMANCES

For the third week in a row, Team Christina’s India Carney finds herself performing for an Instant Save. She sings Kelly Clarkson’s “Dark Side,” and it’s, well, not her brightest moment. Team Pharrell’s Koryn Hawthorne trumps her vocally and emotionally with her rendition of Beyoncé’s “If I Were a Boy.”

“India, you always do my heart proud,” says Christina. “We’ve had quite a journey together.” (Again, with the journey!)

“People show up every week to see what you do, and how you just pulled the energy from this room,” Pharrell tells Koryn.

“These things come down to the tweet,” says Carson, in the eye-roll social media statement of the episode.

In the end, Koryn gets the Instant Save, and India departs ever so close to the finals. To add insult to injury, the show lets out right during L.A. rush hour, so India’s defeat-drive back to UCLA is going to just be the worst.

It looked like it could have been Christina’s season for so long, but alas: not even a finals appearance. Stay fierce and strong, Christina, and just hope Pharrell defeats the bromance dynasty next week.

Final four thoughts, rants or raves?
