Zayn Malik Speaks After One Direction Departure
Zayn Malik chose to give an interview to The Sun about leaving the group.

In their first television appearance since Zayn Malik‘s departure, the remaining members of One Direction revealed that a new album is already in the works, assuaging fan fears that the group was about to dissolve completely or go on hiatus. The now-foursome appeared on The Late Late Show Thursday (May 14) for “1D Night,” telling host James Corden that the band will carry on with new music and tours despite the slightly smaller lineup.

Liam Payne had the most to say about Malik’s choice to leave, admitting that at first the guys were angry, but eventually they came to understand the decision and there are “no hard feelings.” “Obviously we were surprised, but I think we all knew the general vibe Zayn was feeling,” he said. “If you don’t like your job, you’ve got to follow your heart sometimes and go where you need to go.”

Corden asked if they considered ending 1D in the aftermath of his departure, and they all immediately shook their heads, indicating it was never in the cards. “We’re in the studio at the minute, that’s why we’re here,” Niall Horan explained. “So, yeah we’re looking forward to bringing out the new record and going on more tours.”

Louis Tomlinson also cleared the air regarding his recent Twitter spat with his former bandmate, saying they’ve resolved the issue and are on “good terms.”
