New M.I.A. (Kinda): Hear Her Collaboration With A French Techno Supergroup
M.I.A. has teamed up with Gener8ion, a sort of techno supergroup led by Brodinski‘s Bromance Records and French producer Surkin, which is described as “a pluridisciplinary entity, at the crossing of music, art and fashion. ” But all you need to know is the M.I.A.-featuring single, “The New International Sound (Part II),” is straight fire flames hands-up emoji.
The song boasts an apocalyptic beat that’s equal parts jagged and fluttering, more cerebral than the gut-punch of EDM’s cheap bass wobbles. And there’s nobody more suited to this type of thing than M.I.A., who spits metallic raps about fame and unleashes a warbled, wordless hook. It’s pretty much exactly what I wanted the Future Brown album to sound like, and it’s a great placeholder while we wait for M.I.A.’s new video.

The Gener8ion EP is out June 15.
