Katharine McPhee Confirms 'Smash' Reunion
Smash fans, you're in luck: The show ain't over just yet! There's a reunion in the works.

The first taste of Katharine McPhee’s long-overdue third LP is almost upon us! The cover of scandalously-titled comeback single “Lick My Lips” surfaced online today (May 22) and it’s a truly sight to behold. The leather-clad Smash actress is hoisted on a dude’s shoulder in front of what appears to be a giant milkshake. She’s serving serious Grease teas and I think I like it! There’s no release date yet, but the video clip has already been filmed.

The 31-year-old has been chipping away at this opus for a while. Katharine signed with Columbia Records in early 2013 and revealed that she was working on new songs with Linda Perry, Sia and Ryan Tedder. Unfortunately, the project was put on hold when TV stardom called. So, what do we know about “Lick My Lips”? It was co-written/produced by Isabella Summers (Florence + The Machine’s “Dog Days Are Over” and Iggy Azalea’s “Trouble”) and is said to feature a Luther Vandross sample. You can hear a snippet in this Instagram video.

It will be interesting how Katharine positions herself the third time around. The Danja-produced bangers on self-titled debut LP didn’t feel like a natural fit, while the adult contemporary-leaning ballads on sophomore set Unbroken were a little too polite. If the cover is any indication, she’s feeling more adventurous this time around — so, that’s promising! Get ready for the diva’s comeback by revisiting her still-gorgeous debut single “Over It” below.
