Popping Up: Conrad Sewell
Get to know a little bit more about Aussie singer and "Firestone" vocalist Conrad Sewell.

Australian singer/songwriter Conrad Sewell generated serious buzz earlier this year with soulful, disco-tinged debut single “Hold Me Up” and a feature on Kygo’s worldwide club (and crossover) hit “Firestone.” The 27-year-old, who is signed to Lyor Cohen’s 300 Entertainment in the US, is ready to take things to the next level with beautiful ballad “Start Again” — a song which has an interesting history.

Jay Z’s business partner heard an early demo of the song when Conrad was still unsigned and wanted it for Kylie Minogue’s Kiss Me Once LP. (She was signed to Roc Nation at the time). He declined because “it didn’t sound like a Kylie song,” and recorded it himself. The mournful ballad, which finds the singer coming to terms with the end of a relationship, is a stone cold smash with the kind of anthemic chorus that only comes around a couple of times a year.

The song is already number two on Australian iTunes without a video or promotion. At this rate, Conrad could follow in the footsteps of his younger sister Grace, who recently topped the chart Down Under with an update of Lesley Gore’s “You Don’t Own Me.” Listen to “Start Again” below.
