Demi Lovato’s “Cool For The Summer” Surfaces Online: Listen

The singer talks his new LP & the cerebral message under its sexy veneer.

There has been endless talk about Demi Lovato‘s forthcoming “Cool For The Summer” single — from the sexy cover art to the bright video teaser. Now, as with most songs of this year, the tune made its way onto the internet last night (June 29).

“Cool For The Summer” finds Demi stepping away from her expected cutesy pop rock vibe, thanks to its spatial production that flows over and under the artist’s breezy but commanding vocals as she cheekily sings: “Got a taste for the cherry/ I just need to take a bite.” The buildup to the chorus is the single’s highlight, with Demi’s voice soaring like a roller-coaster over buzzing synths a la Kesha.

The track is reportedly produced and written by some of pop’s major tastemakers: Max Martin, Ali Payami, Alexander Erik Kronlund and Savan Kotecha. It serves as the first taste of Demi Lovato’s upcoming fifth LP, which is the follow-up to her 2013 self-titled album.
