Austin Mahone’s long-overdue debut LP is finally coming! Lead single “Dirty Work” arrived at radio yesterday (June 30) and it’s rather surprising. The 19-year-old jumps on the funk-revival bandwagon with a retro-leaning banger that lands somewhere between Bruno Mars and Mark Ronson’s “Uptown Funk” and Justin Timberlake’s “Not A Bad Thing.” The track shows considerable artistic growth since 2014 hit “Mmm Yeah,” so it was well worth the wait for new music.

“I’ve been puttin’ in, puttin’ in overtime, you ain’t gotta tell me what’s on your mind,” the teenager croons coyly over funky bass, before the horns arrive for the ’70s-tastic chorus. “It’s that dirty work, somebody’s gotta do it! Dirty work, so lead me to it!” Austin clearly has sex on the brain, but the double entendres are just obscure enough to pass most parents by. All in all, this is very well done! “Dirty Work” drops July 10.
