Vote for which popstress has the better summer single!

We’ll give this to Nicki French: Given the current sea-change with gay rights in the past month, the timing of her latest music video couldn’t be better.

On the surface, French’s new single  “This Love” (released to celebrate 20 years since her cover of “Total Eclipse Of The Heart” became a worldwide smash) may sounds like another upbeat dance-pop entry in the British diva’s catalog, but the music video gives an added emotional dimension to the whole shebang that, quite frankly, we weren’t expecting.

Right from the get-go, we’re shown images of a gay couple in old age, with one of them on their deathbed, while the surviving member of the pair flashes back to their youthful, carefree days together. Touching scenes of the two of them walking on the beach, dancing in a field and snuggling up on a park bench go by as the clip occasionally cuts from past to present, reminding us that, as Nicki sings in the Mike Stock-produced track, “this love will never die.”

“This Love” (available to download here) marks the reunion of singer French and producer Stock, who first worked together on the Nicki’s 1995 debut LP Secrets. The album contained her cover of “Total Eclipse Of The Heart,” which peaked at #2 on the Billboard Hot 100.
