OMI Interview
Get to know OMI, one of the newest artists on the rise, via our Popping Up feature.

At this point, there is no escaping the immense tune that is OMI’s “Cheerleader.” The Felix Jaehn remix has seemingly taken over the airwaves (and the world), and the rising Jamaican singer stopped by Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon last night (July 14) to show just way the single has become so ubiquitous.

The performance marked OMI’s late-night television debut, and the sharply-dressed artist sang the catchy tune with ease. The live trumpet solo was also a nice touch.

“Cheerleader” is currently the newest #1 song in the country, and has (finally) kicked Wiz Khalifa‘s “See You Again” out of the top spot. The tune has been on the charts for 12 weeks now, and is certified Platinum. It’s beginning to feel like 2006 all over again — Sean Paul, anyone?

Watch the performance up top, and catch OMI explaining how he wrote the song below.
