Stellar Scottish synth-pop trio Chvrches have been talking about their progress in the studio recently, and now they’ve officially announced their new album, Every Open Eye. The sophomore set is out September 25 on Glassnote Records, and they’ve launched an Instagram account for future news about the album.

The LP was recorded in Glasgow, and that’s the Power, Corruption & Lies-like cover art up top. Lead singer Lauren Mayberry previously said the material was going to be “pretty emosh” (as in “emotional”), and she tells Pitchfork lead single “Leave A Trace” is the “nastiest, snidest tune” on the LP:

“‘Leave A Trace’ is the middle finger mic-drop. It’s about that point where you’re like, “There’s no point having this conversation anyways: There will be no resolve, I won’t feel better about it, you won’t feel better about it, no outcome from this will actually change my reality.” It makes me feel better to write about that — I’ve done something constructive with it. You don’t put that on other people, you put that into what you do. That’s always the way I’ve written lyrics. My ex-partners are not friends with me, but I’m OK with that.”

Though “Leave A Trace” comes from an exasperated, frustrated place, it’s as vibrant, melodic and dynamic as anything they’ve released. Watch the lyric video below and check out the album’s tracklist.
