Look Back At Lady Gaga's 'The Fame'
We revisit Gaga's debut album in our Stan & Deliver series

The year, if your mind can stretch back that far, was 2008. The month was December, and these two were doing the promo rounds in the early days of their pop careers by performing at various Jingle Ball events together.

David Archuleta had come in second place (behind winner David Cook) earlier that year on American Idol. By the end of the summer, his power ballad single “Crush” was soaring at #2 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Shortly after, an unknown New York pop diva named Lady Gaga released her debut LP The Fame. Her single “Just Dance” had been slowly working its way up from the dance club circuit onto radio and into the mainstream pop charts. By December it was finally sitting in the Top 10, and a month after this particular Jingle Ball appearance, “Just Dance” would become the first of three #1s (to date) for Gaga.

Anyway, enjoy seeing Mother Monster and Archie interacting a much more wide-eyed and innocent time — when the Idol alum appeared quite taken aback and nervous around the charismatic and sassy Gaga.

PS Total eyebrow-raising moment: Just before they share a hug, David looks in the camera and says, “She’s gonna be a great opener!”

My, how the times have changed.
