Keri Hilson Performed To An Empty Arena
Everything about this is messy. Keri Hilson was paid $100K to perform to no fans in Dallas.

There’s more to Keri Hilson than a career-stalling beef with Beyonce and that infamous gig in an empty arena. When she gets it right (“Knock You Down,” “I Like,” “Pretty Girl Rock,” “Lose Control” and “All The Boys” for starters), the 32-year-old is one of the most exciting talents in R&B. Which is why fans are still checking for her five years after her last LP — 2010’s very good No Boys Allowed. Happily, there’s some relief in sight with the arrival of two new tracks (“Scream” and “100) this morning and a press release promising an August release date for album number three.

Unfortunately, Miss Keri’s comeback gets off to a disappointing start. “Scream” has the elements to be a good bedroom anthem (dirty lyrics and a killer vocal), but the production is grating — sorry, Polow Da Don and Mansur — and it veers a little too close to Queen Bey’s “Rocket” for my liking. At least it sounds like a song unlike the clunky, melody-free mess that is “100.” The diva’s press release confirms collabs with Ester Dean, Chris Brown and Dr. Luke on the album, so all hope is not lost. Listen to Keri’s new tracks below.
