After spending most of 2014 featuring on random club-bangers, Icona Pop came back swinging earlier this year with “Emergency.” Produced by Ricky Reed, the title track of the Swedish duo’s new EP (due July 17) finds the “I Love It” hitmakers in a bolder, more adventurous mood. That session inspired the ladies to revisit the first track they ever wrote together — the suitably-titled “First Time.”

“The song has a whole new meaning to it now, looking back and reflecting on how far we’ve come since those early days when we were broke and didn’t have a clue what we were doing or where we were going!” Aino Jawo says of the perky pop anthem. “It’s such a special song to us and really is a celebration of friendship, whether it’s with your boyfriend or girlfriend or best friend,” Caroline Hjelt adds.

“We just wanted to capture that feeling again in a song and remind ourselves how important it is to never forget those special early days when you first meet someone.” It’s a shame the track has been gathering dust for three years because it’s one of their best things they’ve done since “I Love It.” Kudos to Reed for steering the production away from the tired electro-pop of their last few singles. Icona Pop are rejuvenated and radder than ever. Listen below.
