Kiiara Lives Up To The Massive Hype With “Tennessee”: Listen

Kiiara’s debut single sparked an unprecedented (at least, for a new artist) outpouring of blog love when it arrived in June. As much as I wanted to join the circle jerk, “Gold” tried a little too hard for my liking — from the pretentious cover to the heavily-distorted chorus. That being said, it was hard not to be impressed by the 20-year-old’s bold vision and palpable talent. I wasn’t quite hooked, but I certainly wanted to hear more.

The Illinois singer returns today (June 20) with the second taste of debut EP Meet Me In The Cornfield and it’s really, really good. Produced by Felix Snow, “Tennessee” is another intoxicating blend of crisp percussion and drowsy synths — only with an actual chorus and biting lyrics. “All those bitches on the internet,” Kiiara coos. “Burn them up like a cigarette.” The newcomer might live up to the hype after all.
