Mariah Carey is coming to 'Empire''s second season — but what's in store?

Shortly after Timbaland confirmed that he is to reunite with Justin Timberlake in the studio, the landmark hip-hop producer revealed that he has an even bigger collaboration in the works — new Aaliyah music.

“People ask me all the time do I have any babegirl music we haven’t heard,” he said on Instagram. “well the answer is YES!!!!!!!! TIMBO x BABEGIRL !!!!! Sneak peak coming !!!!!!!”

In an age where music always seems readily accessible, Aaliyah’s own music is hard to come by. Only one of her albums, her 1994 debut Age Ain’t Nothing But A Number, is available on Spotify. Meanwhile, Drake and Chris Brown have attempted to reintroduce the adored R&B star to a new generation though various projects, only to be criticized by none other than Timbaland himself.

Aaliyah also worked with Timbo on some of her progressive hits: “Are You That Somebody,” “Try Again,” “We Need a Resolution.” In fact, the Timbaland “sound” is largely what he honed while working with her, and their collective influence can be heard in every new class of R&B stars that has arrived since Aaliyah’s tragic death in 2001.
