REBEL & Sophie Simmons’ “Kiss Me”: Listen To Their Cover Of Sixpence None The Richer’s Classic Song

Earlier this year, REBEL applied his remix skills to the Hunger Games: Mocking Jay, Pt. 1 hymn “The Hanging Tree,” sung in the film by Oscar winner Jennifer Lawrence, and the result was 6.7 million plays of his reworking of the song on YouTube. Now affiliated with the Universal-owned label Casablanca Records, REBEL has offered up a spirited dance cover of Sixpence None The Richer‘s 1999 She’s All That soundtrack hit “Kiss Me,” featuring vocals by singer and #NoFilter founder Sophie Simmons.

Where this all comes full circle is Casablanca: Simmons is the 23-year-old daughter of KISS rock legend Gene Simmons — and KISS was the label’s very first signing, back in 1973.

When asked how the collaboration came about, Sophie explains to Idolator, “Casablanca actually contacted me. The idea was to cover these amazing ’90s hits with current EDM talent. We went back and forth trying to find songs to cover, and ‘Kiss Me’ just came to us. We knew it was the right song immediately.”

Simmons has a forthcoming EP titled No Filter — just like the online magazine she owns — which says will be released in September.

“It’s definitely more straight pop and less EDM,” Sophie tells us of her upcoming material. “If I knew how to make good EDM I would, but I won’t pretend I’m a DJ. There are too many of those out there. I’ll leave it to the pros, REBEL and Casablanca.”
