Charli XCX Reveals That Paris Hilton Inspired Her New Album. She’s Also Working On Rihanna’s ‘R8’
Charli XCX knows what’s good. The 23-year-old recently told The Mirror that her new album is influenced by a certain heiress. “It’s definitely the most electronic pop sound I’ve done,” the Brit said of the SOPHIE-assisted LP. “I’ve been really inspired by Paris Hilton, small dogs and a glitter, luxe lifestyle.” She then raved about the pop legend/DJ’s seminal 2006 debut LP. “I’m such a fan and one of my favorite songs ever is ‘Stars Are Blind’ — it’s pop genius.”
The “Boom Clap” diva is also busy writing songs for other artists. She co-penned Selena Gomez’s new single “Same Old Love” and is currently working on Rihanna’s forever-in-the-making R8 album. “I’m a really big Rihanna fan and I think she’s such an incredible artist,” Charli raved. “She’s my favourite pop girl. She’s the real deal. I’ve actually been to a couple of writing sessions for Rihanna’s new record,” she continued. “It was really fun to put together a couple of tracks.”
It sounds like Rih has stopped trying to be taken seriously with dreary folk songs and pretentious ballads, and has reverted to churning out mindless club-bangers. This is the best news I’ve heard in ages!
