Album Review: The Weeknd
See what we had to say about the R&B singer's big pop move with his new LP.

Folks, here’s the thing: The Weekend topped the Billboard 200 last week after moving 411,000 units of his third LP Beauty Behind The Madness, and this week he retains his position on top of the chart on the strength of another 145,000 units. That said, only 77,000 of those units were actual sales of the album, with the rest made up by streaming. On the flip side, this week’s #2 album on the chart, Got Your Six by Five Finger Death Punch, enters with 119,000 units, 114,000 of which were sales.

So again, the #1 album sold 77K copies, while the #2 album sold 114K. If, like us, you’ve got a single eyebrow raised, it’s likely because weeks like this are when this whole Billboard sales plus streaming formula seems highly no bueno.

At any rate, The Weeknd makes his third trip to the peak position of the Hot 100, as well, with “Can’t Feel My Face.” It’s the third overall non-consecutive week at #1 for the song, which has seen its reign interrupted twice now — by both OMI‘s “Cheerleader” and Justin Bieber‘s “What Do You Mean?”

As for the #2 song in the country this week, well, that belongs to The Weeknd, too, as “The Hills” moves up one notch from last week’s perch at #3.
