Kanye West To Live Stream Yeezy Season 2 Fashion Show In Theaters

Kanye West used to complain that he wasn’t taken seriously in the fashion world. Now he’s being criticized by other designers for preventing them from being taken seriously. At the last minute, West announced his Kanye West X Adidas Originals Collection (Yeezy Season 2) show at New York Fashion Week for September 16 at noon. Designer Anne Bowen planned to launch her competing streetwear collection, Nomad VII by Anne Bowen, at the same time, and now she’s calling an audible since West will devour all the media attention at that time.

“We have been prepping for a year for this at considerable financial, labor- and commitment-cost to our company. Our show date has been scheduled for months and has been on the Fashion Calendar for weeks,” she told WWD. “And just yesterday we learned that Kanye West is having a show at the same time on the same date as ours.”

Bowen added: “Kanye knows he is a media sensation and it is just not ethical to do this. It’s like we are David and he is Goliath. We have put our heart and soul into our show, and should not be stepped on like this.”

Subsequently, Bowen moved her show to September 17 at 12:30 at the original location, Tao.

I dunno, this seems akin to complaining that your album came out on the same day as Beyoncé‘s surprise LP. Like, if it’s good, it’ll still be heard/seen. There are still writers and photographers who won’t get into the Yeezy show and are assigned to cover your thing. Then again, everything I know about fashion I learned from The Devil Wears Prada and Four Pins so…

But Kanye’s not just trying to monopolize eyeballs at NYFW. He’s aiming to take over the world for a few minutes tomorrow. His Yeezy Season 2 show will be simulcast at movie theaters in over 30 cities worldwide, including NYC, Paris, Dublin, Los Angeles and Sydney.

For Season 1 in February, the show was accompanied by a studio recording of new (and still unreleased) song “Wolves,” so even West’s fashion-indifferent fans will be itching to see if he premieres any new Swish material, which could drive much of the demand for the live stream.
