Meg Mac Interview
Meg Mac talks to us about landing a US record deal and working on her debut LP.

Meg Mac generated huge buzz with soulful ballad “Roll Up Your Sleeves” in late 2014. The singer/songwriter, who won the prestigious Unearthed competition for unsigned talent in Australia, followed it up with a beautifully crafted, self-titled EP and a star turn at SXSW. It didn’t take long before she was snapped up by a US record label and the Sydney-born diva has been working on her debut LP ever since.

The first taste of that project is called “Never Be” and it finds the 25-year-old in a distinctly bitter mood. “You see me so small but I will win it again,” she howls over gospel-referencing production. “All I’m saying, there’s a sting out there you cannot feel.” The video arrived today (September 15) and it reflects the tracks vengeful theme with Meg hovering on a cliff top like a fully dressed (but highly fashionable) siren.

“Never Be” is a bold and beautiful experiment, which has been an unexpected commercial success at home — becoming the newcomer’s first top 40 hit. When can we expect more music? “I would ideally like to have [the album] out by the end of the year,” Meg told Idolator in April. “But I don’t know if that’s possible. Definitely going to get all of the hard work done in the next few months.” Watch her striking video up top.
