Drake recently said he remixes songs because he thinks he can do a better job than the original artist. Well, he just got a taste of his own medicine, with Erykah Badu‘s cover/remix of “Hotline Bling.”

Drake Being Drake:: The 6 God's god complex

For “HOTLINE BLING BUT U CAINT USE MY PHONE MIX,” Badu expands the concise, tropical-tinged lament into a seven-minute odyssey featuring a swirling space-funk workout and a sardonic voicemail break (“If you’re calling to beg for some shit in general, press 4”). She puts her spin on the track right out of the gate, changing the opening line to “You used to call me on my cellular device” instead of “cell phone.”

The rework was co-written by Seven Benjamin, Badu’s son with André 3000. It’s from her forthcoming mixtape BUT U CAINT USE MY PHONE. Hear it below.
