Björk To Release All-Strings Version Of ‘Vulnicura’: Hear The “Lionsong” Rework

Björk has announced plans to rerelease Vulnicura as an orchestral acoustic version comprising only “strings, voice and viola organista.” Vulnicura Strings will strip out the atmospherics, percussion and pulverizing electronics that Björk put together with some input from Arca and The Haxan Cloak, instead highlighting her intricate string compositions and new violin solos by Una Sveinbjarnardóttir.

The reworked album also boasts the novelty of utilizing the world’s only viola organista, which is an instrument invented by Leonardo da Vinci that “uses a friction belt to vibrate individual strings (similar to a violin), with the strings selected by pressing keys on the keyboard (similar to an organ).” Vulnicura Strings will be available digitally and on CD on November 6, and on 2xLP vinyl starting December 4.
