And the mainstreaming of The Weeknd throws us for yet another loop. Tonight (October 10), the singer capped off a monster year with a monster first stint as musical guest on Saturday Night Live, but for his opening song on the Amy Schumer-hosted episode, he didn’t go with the lively, radio-friendly “Can’t Feel My Face.” Instead, he opted for the sinister, shriek-laden (but still chart-topping) “The Hills” — and surprise guest Nicki Minaj joined him for her brand new remix verse.

The two had a great chemistry, playing off each other and the crowd as though they’ve been performing together all along. Watch the performance below.
