From Take That to One Direction: the best British boy bands of the past 25 years.

Last year, longstanding British pop act Take That emerged with a new album, III, recorded by the slimmed-down lineup of Gary Barlow, Mark Owen and Howard Donald. (Jason Orange announced his departure earlier in 2014, while Robbie Williams, who was on board for Take That’s 2010 album Progress, opted to sit this latest era of the band out.) The result was an eighth consecutive chart-topper on the UK album chart, and Take That’s first #1 single (“These Days”) in six years.

Just one year later, the trio has announced that they’ll premiere a brand new single this week when they perform on the revamped version of the Chris Evans-hosted British talk show/entertainment series TFI Friday, which originally aired on Channel 4  from 1996 to 2000. Also scheduled to perform is another small act from overseas called U2.

Using the hashtag #TTIII2015, Take That promised on social media that there’s “lots more coming soon.”

So, quite appropriately, there are three possibilities here: 1) Either we’re in for a new Take That album soon, only a year after the release of the previous one; 2) A greatest hits, possibly featuring all of the band’s material since reuniting after a 10-year break in 2005, is on the way; 3) Perhaps, given that hashtag, III is being re-released in deluxe format with some new songs tacked on.

Roll on Friday.
