Selena Gomez stopped by Z100 yesterday (October 13) to chat with Elvis Duran about her strong new album Revival, and opened up about her nervousness about being taken seriously as an artist, her future goals and the importance of Taylor Swift‘s squad.

She kicked off the discussion addressing her anxiousness about the album’s reception, but shared that she overcame that with a newfound confidence.

“I think people still think I’m 16,” Gomez told Duran. “Which is fair, because sometimes I still look 16. But I think ultimately it’s [about] confidence, so I’ll start with that. Going into this album…I did executive produce it, so I had to come in with full control and you can hear it.”

She also praised the ever-growing Swift squad and its importance as a cultural idea.

“Especially now, they’re just constantly pinning women against other women — it’s really annoying,” she said. “So now I think it’s changing a little bit. You are kind of having a ‘squad’ and you’re able to look at other women and embrace them and love them and tell them how awesome they are. There’s just not enough of that.”
