Dominique’s “I Think I’m Fallin”: Idolator Premiere

The dirty truth about pop music is that the same 15 songs get played in every corner of programmed media over and over and over all day long until they’re emblazoned upon our minds, whether we like them or not — and the majority of these tracks are utter cack. But allow us today to introduce you, readers — and hopefully some radio programmers — to a simple, synthy breathe of fresh musical air.

“I Think I’m Fallin,” which Idolator is premiering today, is the second single (following 2014’s chill “It’s Only You”) from New York-based musician Dominique, a former NYU Biology student who first gained notice by popping a Lorde cover online nearly two years ago.

Dominique tells Idolator the following about “I Think I’m Fallin”:

“I wrote this song about the up-and-down rollercoaster of self-doubt and confidence that is a part of making art. I made the demo about a year ago, and spent months trying to find someone to produce it before realizing I should just push myself to produce it myself. It definitely fits as my first self-produced release because the song speaks about forcing yourself to work through your fear of not making something ‘good enough’, a fear that kept telling me I needed to be working with other producers instead of just working harder to improve my sound.”

Singer, keyboard player, producer — Dominque really does do it all.

“I Think I’m Fallin” will be released tomorrow. Give the song a listen above, and let us know your thoughts on it below.
