Sky Ferreira: Idolator Interview
Sky Ferreira spoke to us on camera about making her fantastic debut album. Watch.

It wouldn’t be a Sky Ferreira album without a couple of hurdles. The 23-year-old’s critically acclaimed debut LP Night Time, My Time took two years to reach listeners. (It went through several drafts and caused serious friction with her record label). Things are going a lot more smoothly this time around, but it’s very much a work in progress. “It’s not going as quickly as I thought it would,” the “Everything Is Embarrassing” singer told BEAT Magazine.

“I’ve been working on it for the last two years, but now it’s starting to grow into something more.” What direction is she taking on Masochism? “I had a bunch of ideas but not a specific sound necessarily,” she explains. Happily, Sky has some canny collaborators to help her out. “[I’m] working with Mike Dean, who’s worked with Kanye and Travis Scott. And this guy called Rahki who did some of the Kendrick Lamar stuff.” But don’t expect a hip-hop record. “It’s more like The Knife or Fever Ray in terms of the production.”

As for the title, it’s not to be taken literally. “I don’t want to give too much away,” The Green Inferno actress says. “It’s not S&M shit though, that’s what drives me crazy. The title is not a sexual thing. It’s more emotional masochism.” The album might take a while to arrive, but I’m sure it will be worth the wait.
