For a four-album stretch that lasted from 1998’s two-time Grammy winning Wide Open Spaces to 2006’s five-time Grammy winner Taking The Long Way, the Dixie Chicks were country-pop hit-makers who sold 30 million albums in the US and endured a headline-making backlash (and, in some cases, ban from radio) after frontwoman Natalie Maines made critical remarks in 2003 about then-president George W. Bush and the Iraq War. Though they received the Album Of The Year Grammy for the Rick Rubin-produced Taking The Long Way and both Record and Song Of The Year for the LP’s lead single “Not Ready To Make Nice,” the trio, not surprisingly, felt it was time to take a break by 2007.

That decade-long hiatus will end in summer 2016, however, as an extensive Dixie Chicks North American tour was announced today (November 16) by Live Nation. The trek, officially titled DCX MMXVI World Tour, kicks off June 1 at Cincinnati’s Riverbend Music Center and stretches to September 2, when the trio will play Salt Lake City’s USANA Amphitheater. A month later, on October 10, the group will play Los Angeles’ Hollywood Bowl.
