Adele’s ’25’ Will Not Be Available To Stream

UPDATE: A Spotify rep confirmed the reports, telling Rolling Stone, “We love and respect Adele, as do her 24 million fans on Spotify. We hope that she will give those fans the opportunity to enjoy 25 on Spotify alongside 19 and 21 very soon.”

The opening week sales projections for Adele‘s 25 are absolutely staggering — not just for this streaming age but even considered against the height of the album age. And that number may rise now that The New York Times reports 25 won’t be available on major streaming services like Spotify and Apple Music.

The NYT reveals: “With less than 24 hours before the album’s release on Friday, the major digital services have been told that 25 will not be made available for streaming, according to three people with direct knowledge of the plans for the release.” The article states that a spokesman for Adele declined to comment.

Billboard previously reported that 25 sales were projected to hit 2.5 million in its first week, which would be the biggest-selling week for an album in Nielsen Soundscan history. *NSYNC’s No Strings Attached previously held the record, moving just over 2.4 million units in March of 2000.

So if Adele’s third album isn’t available to stream during that debut stretch, it could lead to a boost in those figures, as people pining to hear the album who otherwise wouldn’t plunk down some cash rush to join one of those increasingly rare monocultural events. The next seven days are gonna feel like the old days.
