Racial injustices has recently been an unfortunate yet central topic in America over the past few month, which makes Nicki Minaj‘s reading Maya Angelou‘s “Still I Rise” poem for A&E’s Shining A Light: A Concert for Progress on Race in America all the more important.

The rapstress recited the historical work for the taped television special last night (November 18) in Los Angeles, and she enunciated every special verse with a confident conviction that was both sultry and powerful.

The special event is set to air on all iHeartMedia and A+E Networks platforms on November 20 at 8 p.m EST. Bruce Springsteen, Pharrell Williams, Sia, Jamie Foxx, Sting, John Legend, Ed Sheeran, Pink, Miguel, Zac Brown Band, Eric Church, Rhiannon Giddens, Tori Kelly and Jill Scott are all booked to perform. Proceeds from the concert will go to Fund for Progress on Race in America via United Way Worldwide. View Nicki Minaj’s reading below.
